Piedmont 10 House Development

This project artfully increases the housing density in Oakland’s popular Piedmont Avenue neighborhood while providing private outdoor space for each homeowner.  Ten houses are carefully arranged on a sloping property to maximize floor space as well as views and curb appeal.  Each house is consistent in massing, but takes inspiration from a different architectural style.  The gardens are designed with different themes as well, such as Arts & Crafts and white flowers, and Mediterranean with blue flowers.  Most of the plantings selected are low water use and most have habitat value for important insects such as honey bees, as well as providing food and shelter for birds.  This all adds up to create variety and excitement in small garden spaces.
